Unemployment in Wittelsbacher Land is at an alarming level!
The current labor market situation in the Wittelsbacher Land casts a shadow: The latest statistics from the employment agency show an increase in unemployment that looks worrying. Danube Courier reported that 2,541 people were registered as unemployed in the Aichach-Friedberg district in August 2025. This means an increase of 164 people compared to the previous month, which corresponds to a whopping increase of 6.9%. Compared to the previous year, the number of unemployed people increased by 315 people - a percentage increase of 14.2%.
This development is raising eyebrows, as the unemployment rate has risen to 3.2%, which is 0.2 percentage points above the previous month's level. For comparison: a year ago this rate was 2.8%. Women, young people and foreign citizens are particularly affected. In August, about 324 youth under 25 were unemployed — an increase of nearly 19%. The next big blow comes from the age of 50: over 1,000 unemployed people belong to this age group, while the number of long-term unemployed has increased by a worrying 23.8%.
Efforts to find training places
There are also changes in the search for training. In Aichach-Friedberg, 347 young people are looking for a training position. Interestingly, there are 487 vacant training positions, which results in a ratio of 100 applicants for 140 positions. This shows that there are opportunities, but many are denied access. Elsa Koller-Knedlik, chairwoman of the Augsburg Employment Agency, appeals to companies to give young people a chance, even if they don't exactly fit the profile.
In the SGB II legal area, i.e. the area of citizens' benefit, there were 862 unemployed people, an increase of 39 compared to the previous month and 114 compared to the previous year. All of this comes at a time when the total number of unemployed in the region, including the Augsburg and Dachau counties, continues to rise, despite previous declines this year. Loud B4B Swabians There was a recent decline between April and August, but this was more than offset by recent developments. The employment agency reports a total of 16,218 unemployed in the region.
The situation in neighboring districts
A look across the border into neighboring regions shows similar trends. In the Dachau district, 3,207 unemployed people were registered in August, which corresponds to an increase of 210 people compared to the previous month and caused the unemployment rate to climb to 3.4%. What is particularly noticeable is the increasing rate among people under 25, which is now 4.1%.
Despite these worrying figures, we must not lose the experts' optimistic outlook. The Institute for Labor Market and Vocational Research (IAB) expects a stable upward trend and an improvement in employment. However, we must recognize the thresholds in the different groups of people, because foreign unemployed people, for example, are currently particularly affected. What will happen next and whether companies are prepared to take new paths and create jobs remains to be seen.
