Altötting: Students shine at the 72nd European competition!

This year the European competition saw its creative spotlight for the 72nd time. With the motto "Europe? Of course!" not only highlighted important issues relating to security in Europe, but also encouraged the creativity of young people. This year, 63 talented students from the Altötting district won prizes at state and federal level in this competition. This is also a sign that there is great interest in European issues, especially in Bavaria, where more than 17,000 participants from over 200 schools contributed their ideas. In total, there were over 76,000 children and young people nationwide who got involved and raised their voices to promote discussion of European issues and values.

Especially in times when the challenges in Europe are becoming increasingly complex, the competition is an excellent platform to support the democratic formation of opinions. “The competition makes it clear that engaging with Europe is of great importance for the young generation,” said a representative of the organizers. The participants had the opportunity to creatively engage with European topics, which not only broadened their horizons, but also increased their understanding of the diversity of Europe.

Creativity and diversity in focus

But what does this creative engagement actually look like? Students can submit their contributions in a variety of formats, be it images, films, texts, pieces of music or even podcasts. This approach makes it possible for everyone to contribute their own personal perspective and creative voice. From slamp poetry to multimedia presentations, almost anything that inspires the imagination is allowed. This exciting diversity proves that the young generation not only has a knack for art, but also for communicating complex European topics.

An additional incentive for the participants: The awards not only offer material and cash prizes at the state and federal level, but everyone also receives a certificate in recognition of their participation. This motivates and offers a valuable framework for students to deal with the complex issue of the European Union.

A contribution to school education

The commitment of the teachers should not be underestimated. You will be accompanied by comprehensive support and materials for teaching and will have access to a special work aid portal. This means they are well equipped to encourage the students’ creative impulses and to integrate the discussion of European identity and diversity into everyday school life.

An even broader view of the competition is provided by the website europaeischer-gewinnung.de, where further information, statistics and results are available. The competition has also become a tradition in Bremen and attracts students of all ages and school types to engage with the topic of Europe. The motto here is “European equals colorful – young visions for a Europe of diversity” — another sign that topics such as diversity and inclusion play a major role for the future.

Overall, the European competition shows that the young generation's interest in Europe is alive. The creative contributions and active participation are a clear indicator that the future is in good hands and that youth also have a strong voice in the challenges of the present and future.
