Herbert Winkler opens inspiring exhibition in Amberg!
The art scene in Amberg can look forward to an exciting new highlight: the solo exhibition “Look here!” by Herbert (Happy) Winkler. The opening will take place today, July 3, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. in the Alte Feuerwache city gallery. Winkler, who was born in Amberg in 1949 and has lived in Erlangen since 1970, brings his impressive artistic skills to the local gallery after working as a visual artist for over 57 years and teaching as a high school teacher for 35 years.
The exhibition offers a multi-layered development of Winkler's artistic focus. While the first half of the exhibition is dedicated to oil painting, visitors can expect works on paper in the second half. Winkler's works are characterized by geometric shapes and linear structures that create an exciting interplay between chaos and order. Particularly highlighted are the lucky towers, which are made from everyday objects such as porcelain, glass and lead crystal. This great presentation is complemented by an accompanying program for children, with the painting workshop “Painting fun with Herbert Winkler (Glückstürm)”, which will take place on September 4th, 2025 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Opening times and access to the exhibition
The opening hours of the city gallery are Tuesday to Friday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., while admission to the exhibition is free. An opportunity not to be missed! There is a participation fee of 5 euros for the painting workshop, and registration can be made at the Amberg City Museum. Information about this is also available by telephone; the city gallery can be reached on +49 9621-101284.
Winkler is known for his numerous public exhibitions both at home and abroad. With his latest project, the private exhibition space “scharfe Eck” in Erlangen, he has once again created a creative space that encourages reflection and discovery. His artistic work also contributes to the current discussion within the contemporary art scene, which is inspired by the works of big names such as Bridget Riley and Neo Rauch and at the same time raises socio-political issues that are highly topical today, such as in the works of Stan Douglas and Christian Marclay. In their works, these artists address the role of the museum as an institution and the position of the artist in society.
Overall, the exhibition “Look here!” the potential to not only attract art lovers, but also to provide families with a creative platform to engage with the art of Herbert Winkler. Amberg shows once again how lively and diverse cultural life is here - a real reason to pay a visit to the city gallery!
