New change in leadership: Wiedenbauer and Groß lead the Amberg police force!

On December 19, 2025, Police Vice President Robert Fuchs visited the Amberg police station and officially introduced two new deputy heads. He congratulated the First Police Chief Inspector Reiner Wiedenbauer, who will head the Amberg Criminal Police Inspectorate in the future, as well as Police Councilor Bernd Groß, who will take over the management of the Amberg Police Inspectorate. Both bring a wealth of experience from various areas of the Bavarian Police.

Reiner Wiedenbauer, 55 years old, succeeds the previous deputy head of the Amberg Criminal Police Inspectorate, First Chief Inspector Peter Krämer, who is retiring at the end of the year. Wiedenbauer was previously a department head at the Schwandorf police station and began his career with the Bavarian police in March 1988. Since then, he has served in numerous police stations, including the police station at Munich Airport and the Nuremberg East police station. His studies at the University of Civil Service in Sulzbach-Rosenberg prepared him for his various leadership positions.

As for the new deputy head of the Amberg police inspection, Bernd Groß, he is only 43 years old and joined the inspection in October 2025. He also brings valuable experience from the police headquarters in Middle Franconia. Upon Wiedenbauer's appointment, Groß took over the duties of the previous police chief Günther Grießhammer, who will also end his service at the end of the year. Continuity within the leadership of the Amberg Police Department is of great importance, especially in times when the challenges for the security forces are constantly growing.

Enthusiasm and challenges

The introduction of the two new deputy chiefs shows not only personnel changes, but also the Bavarian Police's commitment to maintaining security and order. With over 45,000 employees, the Bavarian Police is the second largest state police in Germany after North Rhine-Westphalia. This underlines the importance of training and raising qualified managers. Wiedenbauer and Groß are committed to continuing the traditions of the Bavarian Police while pursuing contemporary approaches.

Fighting crime and safeguarding public order are not just central tasks of the police. They are also a large part of social life in Bavaria. In particular, continuous exchange and cooperation with neighboring federal states, as practiced by the Bavarian Police, are crucial to efficiently combat cross-border crime.

In the coming months, Wiedenbauer and Groß will have the opportunity to implement their ideas and strategies. The citizens of Amberg can look forward to future cooperation and stability in the security situation, especially with such competent leaders at the top.
