Johannes Mnich becomes the new director of the Ansbach Bach Week!
A new wind is blowing through the Ansbach Bach Week: From 2026, Johannes Mnich will take on the role of artistic director and managing director. The musician, born in 1985, brings with him a wide range of experience that promises an exciting future for the traditional festival. As already kulturfreak.de reports, Mnich follows Dr. Andreas Bomba, who has shaped the Bach Week since 2007 and has made the festival one of the oldest and most important music events in Germany.
The Bachwoche Ansbach, founded in 1947, has established itself over the years as a fixture in the German music landscape. Festival lovers can look forward to seeing what creative ideas Mnich, as founding director of the TauberPhilharmonie in Weikersheim, will bring with him to continue the legacy of the Bach Week.
From Weikersheim to Ansbach
The future director has already made a name for himself as artistic director of the “Classic in the Castle” series in the Verden district. He studied piano at the University of Music, Theater and Media in Hanover and at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London. Mnich's musical talent is not only showcased in the concert hall. He worked for a concert agency for several years and was a festival manager.
His extensive experience is also reflected in his work at BASF cultural management in Ludwigshafen, where he was responsible for important aspects such as concerts and social media activities. He is also a lecturer for program management and communication at the Würzburg University of Music. His commitment to culture goes beyond management; He has also dedicated himself to educational work and promoted the networking of the cultural program in the region.
Music festivals in focus
Festivals play a central role in the German cultural landscape. A nationwide study that Music Initiative initiated, shows the challenges and the cultural relevance of these events. The results, which will be published in summer 2025, are intended to provide important insights into the economic and organizational conditions of over 1,800 music festivals in Germany.
Such festivals are not only important for finding identity and supporting newcomers, they also contribute to the regional economy and strengthen social interaction and cultural diversity in our cities and regions. By looking at these developments, Mnich could shape their significance for the Ansbach Bach Week and his future program.
We look forward to the coming developments and are excited to see how Johannes Mnich will continue the tradition of the Bach Week and at the same time bring a breath of fresh air into the festival. Stay tuned for more news from the world of music!
