Motorcyclist seriously injured in Colmberg: driver fails to notice him!
A serious traffic accident occurred today in the Ansbach district, more precisely in Colmberg, in which a 29-year-old motorcyclist was critically injured. According to a report by the Evening newspaper A 75-year-old driver wanted to drive from a gas station onto the road when he overlooked the motorcyclist. As a result, the biker was trapped under the car. The man was rescued with the support of the volunteer fire department and gas station employees, who used a forklift.
The motorcyclist was immediately flown by helicopter to hospital, where he requires intensive treatment due to his serious injuries. Fortunately, the drivers, a man and a woman, only suffered minor injuries and were able to avert a worse tragedy.
The dangers in road traffic
The numbers regarding motorcycle accidents in Germany are alarming. The ADAC reports that around 4.7 million motorcycles are registered in Germany alone, with around 15 percent owned by women. Motorcycles are four times more likely to be involved in an accident than cars. In addition, the accident rate among bikers is seven times higher than that of drivers. In 2021, around 20 percent of traffic fatalities and seriously injured motorcyclists were motorcyclists. Young drivers between the ages of 15 and 24 are particularly affected by accidents.
The accident analysis shows that over a third of motorcycle accidents are solo accidents, while almost two thirds are caused by collisions with other road users. Common causes include driving errors, unreasonable speeds, and collisions in turning and intersection accidents. Over 50 percent of collisions involve cars, highlighting the need for preventive measures.
Prevention measures and road safety
The Traffic safety statistics makes it clear that preventive measures are of great importance. These statistics serve as a basis for legislation, traffic education and road construction measures. Technical safety measures such as cornering ABS or traction control could also help reduce accidents.
The right protective clothing is an absolute must for motorcyclists. In addition, traffic experts recommend regular safety checks and driving safety training in order to be safe on the road. The infrastructure also needs increased attention, such as cutting back plantings or setting up directional signs.
This current situation shows once again that there is a great risk in road traffic, especially for motorcyclists. Safety should come first – both when driving and when interacting with other road users. It is up to all of us to raise awareness of these dangers and work together to ensure a safe transport environment.
