Augsburg is thrown out of the DFB Cup: Wagner in crisis!

FC Augsburg is in a deep crisis: after a sobering 0-1 loss against VfL Bochum in the DFB Cup, the team is a lot to talk about. The defeat was the latest low point, following a crushing 6-0 defeat against RB Leipzig last weekend. Coach Sandro Wagner tried to bring a breath of fresh air with six changes to the lineup, but the result remained sobering. That reports BR.de.

The game initially started promisingly for Augsburg: Philipp Strompf had a good opportunity in the 12th minute, but he missed it. In return, Ismael Gharbi was blocked by a Bochum defender in the 15th minute, and Farid Alfa-Rupprecht was denied by the side netting shortly afterwards. In the 25th minute, Augsburg's offense suffered another setback when both Marius Wolf and Gharbi hit the crossbar.

Clumsy offensive efforts

Augsburg's efforts to equalize were often characterized by inaccuracies. Anton Kade, who fired a well-placed long-range shot, narrowly missed the post. A bright spot was Bochum's counterattack in the 39th minute, when Gerrit Holtmann made it 1-0 for the guests. The second half began with a change: Mert Kömür came on for Fabian Rieder, but the momentum that had been introduced did not materialize.

So it happened that Augsburg was unable to penetrate the Bochum defense despite possession of the ball. The substitution of Alexis Claude-Maurice added a little more dynamism to Augsburg's game, but Bochum's goalkeeper Horn was also able to parry his free-kick chance in the 82nd minute. Michael Obafemi in the 83rd minute and Moritz Kwarteng in the 86th minute also found their match in Augsburg keeper Labrovic.

Shocking moment for the FCA fans

Augsburg's incapacitated offensive left no further chances to score and the team's cup dream ended. The fans are now faced with the question of whether the team can get out of their misery under Wagner's leadership.

The mood at FCA is becoming increasingly tense. After the bitter exit from the cup, it remains to be seen whether Wagner will find the right solutions to turn things around. There needs to be a clear improvement in performance in the next few games to allay the fans' worries.
