Mainz celebrates a historic 4-1 victory – Augsburg in crisis!

Yesterday there was a bitter defeat for the hosts at the FC Augsburg stadium. 1. FSV Mainz 05 won 4-1 and celebrated their first win of the season. In the home game against Mainz, who had previously only managed to get one point from three games, things were anything but smooth for FCA. Coach Sandro Wagner is still under pressure, as this defeat was the third in four games of the current Bundesliga season.

It's interesting to see how the game developed. Kaishu Sano gave Mainz the lead in the 14th minute after FC Augsburg's Chrislain Matsima played a bad pass that Sano coldly took advantage of. Dominik Kohr, a former Augsburg player, made it 2-0 in the 26th minute. However, the worries for Augsburg should only increase. Kohr was sent off with a yellow-red card in the 53rd minute after repeated foul play, which put Mainz outnumbered. Nevertheless, the guests proved that they can remain dangerous even when outnumbered.

A game full of errors

FC Augsburg's defense made some careless mistakes throughout the game, which played into Mainz's hands several times. Despite being in the majority, Augsburg failed to take advantage of the clear opportunities. The best opportunities came from a corner, but Mainz goalkeeper Robin Zentner made a strong save.

In the second half, Wagner brought in four new players at halftime, including Samuel Essende, who was back on the pitch after a long suspension. Although Essende managed to score a consolation goal for Augsburg in the 83rd minute, the game was already decided by then. Mainz continued to play cleverly and increased to 4-0 through Paul Nebel in the 60th and Armindo Sieb in the 69th minute before Augsburg could at least score the next goal.

The 29,000 spectators in the stadium were visibly disappointed with their team's performance. Coach Sandro Wagner is now forced to find solutions as quickly as possible to improve the critical situation. The statistics already mentioned about coaching changes in the Bundesliga show that some clubs consider changing their trainers quickly if the results are not right. The question remains whether Augsburg will also dare to take this step in the near future. The Transfermarkt website provides an overview of coaching changes in the Bundesliga, which provides detailed information on clubs and their coaching history.

With the win against Augsburg, Mainz not only gained three important points, but also regained their self-confidence. Now it remains to be seen how the season will develop for both teams.
