Wagner: After the slap against Leipzig - This is how the FCA wants to come back!

A painful weekend for FC Augsburg: After the 6-0 home defeat against RB Leipzig, coach Sandro Wagner was criticized. However, in a press conference he emphasized that he does not want to pick the tulips in the storm, but can learn from this defeat. Wagner expresses confidence and is determined to see the positive aspects of the game. “We analyzed everything carefully,” he explains, while emphasizing the importance of learning from failure.

The coach initially reacted irritably to critical questions, but quickly changed to a matter-of-fact tone. "We have to have trust in our young players. They should be allowed to make mistakes," adds Wagner. He sees himself as a “protective shield” for his men and welcomes the criticism directed at him personally. So he plans to face the next challenge with a changed team. Nediljko Labrovic will be in goal against VfL Bochum instead of Finn Dahmen. “We have to be successful in the DFB Cup,” he warns, and at the same time emphasizes that elimination could increase the pressure accordingly.

New challenge as an assistant coach

Aside from his involvement with Augsburg, Wagner has now also found a new challenge as he becomes assistant coach of the U20 national team. This position is a “perfect next step” for him in his career after recently leading SpVgg Unterhaching to the 3rd league. How ran reports, Wagner will assist head coach Hannes Wolf. The position became vacant after the previous assistant coach Hanno Balitsch moved to the U18s.

Wagner sees his new role as an opportunity to nurture talented players and take their development to the next level. In addition, Joti Chatzialexiou, the sports director of the national teams, praises Wagner as an outstanding personality, which underlines the positive perception of his work. This new challenge will also be presented within the framework of the DFB established structure of the U coaching team, which strives for closer relationships between coaches and players.

A look at underground training

The developments in the DFB's U-area should not be underestimated: The coaching teams change in a three-year cycle, which promises intensive support for the players from the 2009 class up to the U17 level. Patrick Mölzl will also join the team as an assistant coach in the U16 national team. This is no coincidence, as the DFB expects these cycles to provide better support for individual development.

The coaching teams consist of different types of trainers: age experts, experienced professionals and innovative trainers who use current methods. The aim is to prepare talented players as best as possible for their future appearances in the senior national team. The U20 is coached by Hannes Wolf, Daniel Stredak and Lars Stindl, to name just a few of the teams. These measures are also intended to improve communication between the association and clubs.

Wagner has several exciting tasks ahead of him, both in the club and nationally. The next games will show whether the measures are effective and how the situation will develop for FC Augsburg and the U20 national team.
