Visions of the future: Rocketeer Kids Festival inspires young innovators!
The Rocketeer Kids Festival, which took place on July 6, 2025 in the Westhouse Augsburg, captivated numerous children and young people. The festival, as [Augsburger Allgemeine](https://www.augsburger- Allgemeine.de/augsburg/rocketeer-kids-festival-der-augsburger-generalen-laesst-kinder-in-die-zukunft-blicken-110383383) reports, is an exciting event that brings young people aged 7 to 12 closer to the future. Under the motto “Future, digitalization and innovation,” a variety of program items and workshops were offered that were prepared in a child-friendly manner.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of the Funkenwerk Kids Awards, which took place in collaboration with the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences. Four regional high schools competed against each other with their best teams that had previously won intra-school competitions. Here the young people showed impressive ideas and projects that look into the future. The “FoodScout” team at Fuggergymnasium developed an app that uses a shopping list to compare the cheapest prices for food in real time. Filter options for vegan and organic foods are also being planned – an innovative solution for health-conscious shoppers.
Inspiring projects for the future
Another excellent example of the students' ingenuity is the technical device “Lynnix”, which was created by the Maria-Ward-Gymnasium team to improve local public transport.
The “Going2Future” project from the St. Stephan high school helps young people choose a career and shows how important digital skills are today. Particularly outstanding was the presentation of the “Plant2Gether” project from the Königsbrunn high school, which won the Funkenwerk Kids Award. It is a system for caring for houseplants that recognizes nutrient needs and provides appropriate care instructions.
The organizers of the Rocketeer Kids Festival, who are also active on the website Rocketeer Kids, stated that not only was the festival sold out, but well-known personalities from television and the Internet also enriched the event and acted as role models. This encourages children to actively pursue their ideas and dreams.
Digital education – an important investment in the future
In an age in which digital education has become so important, it is important that children and young people are also supported in these areas. SOS-Kinderdörfer are committed to digital education projects that help young people find their way in the digital world and improve their career prospects. Not only local projects are important, but also international initiatives, such as digital lighthouse projects in Ethiopia, which produce inspiring success stories. A talented young man named Bekalu Temesgen has developed impressive programming skills and is working on an innovative project to increase transparency in elections.
The Rocketeer Kids Festival is not only an opportunity for children to gain exciting experiences, but also an important part of the educational landscape that prepares them for the digital challenges of the future. With creative projects and the exchange of ideas, the festival shows how young people can become innovators of the future.
