Horst Lichter enjoys Bavarian cuisine at Schlenkerla in Bamberg!

Horst Lichter, the popular television chef and presenter of the show “Bares für Rares”, recently caused a stir when he visited the cult restaurant Schlenkerla in Bamberg. On June 5, 2025, the 63-year-old sat down with his companion in the beer garden of the traditional restaurant and enjoyed a hearty meal, which included a crispy Schäuferla and a fresh salad with chicken. The Schlenkerla brewery was visibly pleased with the distinguished visitors and announced on its social media that the TV star enjoyed the food “excellently”. A waiter took the opportunity to take a souvenir photo with the popular chef.

While the guests at Schlenkerla were happy about the TV star's presence, the question remains whether Lichter tried the traditional Aecht Schlenkerla smoked beer, which is only brewed by two breweries in the world according to an old recipe. However, Matthias Trum, the head of the brewery, was happy about the positive feedback, even though he was not able to meet Lichter in person. Interestingly, the famous chef and his son Christopher, who share their self-catering experiences on their social media channels, only order a “low-alcohol” lager because of their motorcycle trip.

A visit with tradition

The operators of Schlenkerla described it as an honor to be able to host such a respected chef. The culinary experience at Schlenkerla is not only known for its restaurants, but has also made a name for itself beyond the borders of Bamberg. In fact, the restaurant even landed among the top 10 breweries in a 2025 reader survey, underscoring the eatery's popularity.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, where Bavarian beer gardens are few and far between, a visit to Schlenkerla could be considered a special attraction. If you still fancy Bavarian specialties, you will find another place to go in the “Bax Beer Garden”, which is located next to the BayArena in Leverkusen. Here the operators Basti and Max combine Rhenish and Bavarian cuisine and offer a selection of regional specialties and drinks that sweeten the wait for the next football game.
