Bayreuth leaves the pages: reading festival on the topic of compost inspires everyone!

The “Bayreuth flakes” reading festival is entering its eighth round and invites you to Bayreuth city center on Saturday, August 2nd from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Under the motto “Compost – decay and blossoming”, visitors can expect a colorful program that offers something for all age groups. The Second Mayor Andreas Zippel will officially open the event at 10 a.m. with a musical start by the group Sambareid. The results of the creative writing and painting workshops from the life's work as well as the “Bayreuth leafs through word bag” will also be presented.

School classes from levels 4 to 12 got creative and wrote stories from word snippets, which will be presented at the event. A special highlight will be that guests can build a wheelchair ramp for the Heimathafen Café out of Lego bricks together with RSV Bayreuth. The focus here is on coming together and getting involved. A large book and media market in the Ehrenhof also offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in numerous works.

Diverse program for young and old

The program has many exciting activities in store. In addition to readings, for example from “Fridolin Fly Agaric” and “Lotta and the Glowworms”, interesting discussions on the annual theme are also on the agenda. The event also offers creative workshops, such as a drumming workshop with Alex Aziz Tchelebi or the “Silent Post in German Sign Language” campaign, which provides exciting insights into communication.

Another highlight will be the paper-making activity in front of the art museum, where participants can make their own paper. Those interested can enjoy hourly presentations in the museum under the title “Blooming and Decaying”. For fans of the art of words, there will also be a poetry slam, a science slam and literary contributions that stimulate thought.

A pleasure for all senses

Special guest is best-selling author Tommie Goerz, who will read from his latest work. There are many opportunities for younger visitors to get involved, including large games such as giant scrabble, an aerial viewer park and a book flea market. The entire event is free of charge and invites you to enjoy the atmosphere of Bayreuth's city center.

The reading festival does not end the day with a classic evening event. Instead, there will be a clean-up party with Annette Voges-Kinateder in the courtyard, where visitors can end the day together. Changes to the program are possible, which is why it is advisable to inform yourself in advance. For more information and a program overview, the Bayreuther Tagblatt is a good place to go.

For everyone who wanted to take part in the seventh “Bayreuth flakes” festival on August 4th, 2024, the event was a great success where everyone, regardless of age, got their money’s worth. Here too, the program was very diverse and presented numerous offers for those interested. Back then, the events took place outdoors with free admission, which certainly added to the charm of the event and the community. If you are looking for more information about upcoming programs and events, you can find it at Bayreuth Blattet and at Literaturfestival.
