CSU calls for urgent toilet upgrades for Bayreuth's Christmas market!
On October 18, 2025, the Bayreuth Christmas market will again be criticized for its inadequate toilet infrastructure. The CSU Bayreuth-Süd is vehemently committed to improvements because the current options are simply not enough. Toilets are currently available at the ZOH, in the Bayreuth winter village and in inns on the market, but these have been classified as inadequate by the CSU. Two showmen support the CSU's initiative, which has led to a broader discussion about the need for better toilet facilities at the popular Christmas market. The market traditionally takes place from November 24th to December 23rd and attracts visitors from far away, from the Fichtelgebirge to Franconian Switzerland.
The organization of the Christmas market in downtown Bayreuth aims to attract retailers with their own sales facilities and a diverse range of Christmas goods. Potters, artisans and exhibitors with traditional rides such as the “Grand Carousel” are particularly welcome. Applications must be submitted with detailed information about the sales presentation and stand size. Further information can be found on the city of Bayreuth's homepage. Applications should be sent to the city's public order office.
The importance of public toilets
In order to meet the increasing demands on public toilets, Bayreuth could take a look beyond its borders. The last of 278 newly built, fully automated and barrier-free toilets was recently handed over in Berlin, making the city the most modern in Germany. This initiative shows how important a well-developed toilet infrastructure is for public services. Bettina Jarasch, Senator for the Environment, emphasizes the need for widespread accessibility to public toilets, especially in places with a high number of visitors.
This opens the question: Could Bayreuth benefit from similar models? Adopting modern standards in toilet provision could not only increase the quality of life of visitors, but also help to preserve and further strengthen the charm of the Christmas market. With its initiative, the CSU could provide the right impetus to encourage the city administration to take action.
We will continue to monitor and report on developments surrounding the Christmas market. Preparations are in full swing and the first applications have already been received. It remains exciting to see how the situation surrounding the toilet supply will develop and whether Bayreuth can live up to its role as an attraction during the Christmas season.
