Photo competition in Bayreuth: Vote for your favorite photo!
Art and creativity are now very important in Bayreuth: The new exhibition for the photo competition “Show me your city worth living in” has opened its doors in the attic of RW21. This exciting initiative was created in close collaboration with the Bayreuth Adult Education Center and attracts the attention of photographers and interested parties alike. Special guests at the opening event were Mayor Thomas Ebersberger and District Administrator Florian Wiedemann, who together with the competition participants and jury members celebrated the 189 unique photographs submitted by 73 participants between the ages of 16 and 89. Bayreuth.de reports that the exhibition and the competition are supported by regional management funds from the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy.
The awards ceremony, a highlight of the event, produced some exciting results. Thomas Mielke secured first place with his impressive work “Ruhe am Main” and won a high-quality digital camera. Amelie Ferbert achieved second place with her photography “Balcony Experience” and received a voucher for photo products at dm. Gerhard Fischerauer took third place with “Sleepy Bridge Spirit” and was pleased to receive a voucher for the Selfie Point Gallery.
The audience award and voting options
A special highlight is the audience award, which was presented by regional manager Monika Pellkofer. Visitors have until January 7, 2026 to vote on the works shown. A modern voting method is available: the photographs can be viewed on site and favorites selected via two active image screens. But art lovers can also take part in the vote online. The results will be announced at the beginning of the new year.
This exhibition will be on view at the vhs Bayreuth in RW21 until January 7th and offers a valuable platform for aspiring photographers to present their work to a broader public. But what actually makes a good photo competition? In addition to the commitment of the participants, the size and recognition of the competition are also important. As in an article on Fotomagazin.de As you can read, competitions such as the Sony World Photography Awards or the CEWE Photo Award are some of the largest in the world, with hundreds of thousands of entries each year. This large international participation shows the high interest and passion for photography.
Bayreuth, with its diverse exhibition and dedicated photographers, describes itself as an emerging place of creativity where everyone has the opportunity to share their special view of the world through the lens. The craft of photography connects people and offers both amateurs and professionals a platform to capture their experiences and adventures in an expressive form.
