Large tree planting campaign in Bayreuth: 260 children plant 7,000 trees!
On Friday, November 14th, 2025, it was a very special day in Bayreuth: Over 260 children from different schools treated themselves to a green break in the student forest and planted an impressive 7,000 trees. This great planting campaign, which was generously supported by the city garden department, aims to reforest a former field at Schwedenbrücke. The city and those involved want to counteract the loss of forest area through newly created ponds and at the same time strengthen the climate.
The campaign particularly focuses on biodiversity. The children chose saplings from a total of 19 different tree species. Main tree species such as English, sessile and downy oaks, supplemented by various types of maple, nut trees, bird cherries, chestnuts as well as whitebeams and serviceberries, cover the area of around two hectares. Individual black pines, Lebanon cedars and redwoods were also planted - a perfect selection that promises good future prospects in terms of drought and heat.

The saplings, which are approximately one meter tall at the time of planting, not only represent a future hope for the forest, but also offer young nature lovers a valuable lesson about the importance of environmental stewardship. In the coming years, forestry maintenance will be carried out, where some trees will be removed in order to promote a vital mixed forest. A holistic approach that benefits both nature and citizens.
