Tempo 30 in Bayreuth: Safety and quality of life in focus!

In Bayreuth, concerns about traffic were taken seriously. A new 30 km/h zone will be implemented in the city center faster than originally planned. The city administration announced this on October 29, 2025. In the future, every road user will be asked to show more attention and consideration. The new regulations apply to all streets between Hohenzollernring, Bahnhofstrasse, Casselmannstrasse and Carl-Schüller-Strasse - and not just for cars.

The introduction of the right-of-way rule “right before left” in this zone is particularly important. In the future, Schulstrasse and Wiesenstrasse will no longer have right of way, but must be taken into account by vehicle drivers. The measure not only serves to calm traffic, but also to increase the quality of life in the neighboring residential areas, as bayreuth.de reports.

Traffic calming in the city center

The aim of this innovation is clear: to improve road safety and create a quiet, safe environment for children and pedestrians. The city is relying on comprehensive traffic calming, which also includes other measures. An additional 30 km/h speed limit between the city center and the festival hall will also be implemented. This area includes all streets within the rectangle: Carl-Schüller-Straße, Bürgerreuther Straße, Feustelstraße and Gutenbergstraße, with an exception for the bus route on Friedrich-von-Schiller-Straße.

Existing 30 km/h speed limits in sensitive places such as in front of kindergartens on Erlangerstrasse and Weiherstrasse and in the station forecourt have shown that such measures increase the protection of weaker road users. bayreuther-tagblatt.de emphasizes that the city urges strict adherence to the permissible 30 km/h in order to reduce the number of accidents and improve the quality of stay.

The advantages of 30 km/h

  • Reduzierung der Unfallzahlen
  • Verkürzung der Bremswege
  • Senken von Lärm- und Abgasbelastungen
  • Erhöhung der Aufenthaltsqualität

The increase in safety is particularly evident in densely built-up areas with many crossings - here it is important to protect ancestors and keep the streets livable. The city administration hopes for the understanding and cooperation of all road users in this important transition phase. Let's make Bayreuth safer and more livable!
