Freilassing starts at a fast pace: duel against Murnau to determine your position!

ESV Freilassing will start the second season of the national football league on July 19, 2025 after being promoted again. TSV Murnau is waiting in the Max Aicher Stadium at 6 p.m., an opponent who won the two duels 2-1 and 3-0 last season. However, ESV coach Albert Deiter is optimistic and has the clear goal of keeping the three points in Freilassing. The last meeting ended with a 3-0 win for Murnau on the last matchday of last season, when there was nothing left at stake for both teams. Deiter sees the first game of this season as a way to determine where they stand, as both teams have had numerous personnel changes since the summer break.

The preparation phase was “unusually short”, but the participation in training left nothing to be desired. The squad has been strengthened with ten new, some young players, and it is expected that four to five of them will be in the starting line-up against Murnau. Captain Simon Schlosser remains the leader, supported by his representative Max Streibl. Thomas Unterhuber will play in goal since Matej Markovic is out due to injury.

The path to staying in the league

In the run-up to this season, ESV Freilassing can look back on a successful past season. Relegation in the Southeast Regional Football League was ensured in the last home game against FC Unterföhring. The game ended 1-0 for Freilassing and brought important points. A 0-0 draw between Pullach and Murnau ensured that ESV was no longer in acute danger of relegation before their own game. Around 250 fans were present in the stadium on this memorable day and saw Marco Schmitzberger and Julian Jung being bid farewell.

However, there was also worrying news: Manuel Beck injured his left knee in the 8th minute without any external influence, which indicates a possible cruciate ligament tear. Dominik Krein stepped in for him and showed a solid performance. The only goal of the game was scored by Christian Niederstrasser in the 35th minute, assisted by Simon Schlosser. Tom Unterhuber, the ESV goalie, saved the team from an equalizer just before half-time, and in the second half Freilassing pressed the attack, but was unable to score another goal. Schmitzberger had several opportunities to increase, but failed because of the FC Unterföhring keeper. Maxi Streibl missed the last chance in this game shortly before the end.

Outlook for the new season

So the coming season is just around the corner and has a lot of potential, especially given the many new faces in the team. The first game against Murnau starts an English week for the ESV: On July 22nd they go to TSV Kastl before the home game against SVN Munich on July 26th. The signs are promising and the fans are hoping for an exciting and successful season.
