Oil slick on tracks: Freilassing fire department in action against locomotive damage!

There was a remarkable fire service operation in the Freilassing region on Saturday afternoon. At exactly 11:59 a.m. the emergency services were alerted because a locomotive was losing oil while traveling from Berchtesgaden to Freilassing. The locomotive driver noticed a defect in the locomotive's transformer, which led to a leak of transformer oil. Despite the mishap, the train driver managed to drop off the passengers safely at Freilassing train station before raising the alarm. The locomotive was then moved to an outer siding to make access easier for emergency services, as reported by pnp.de.

When the fire brigade arrived, the oil had already escaped from the Loko's critical container in thin streams and had wetted both the railway sleepers and the ground. In order to take immediate action, metal trays were placed under the locomotive to collect the oil. The operations manager, the emergency manager of Deutsche Bahn and the railway employees discussed the necessary further steps in detail. Due to the small amount of oil leaked and the challenge of sealing the leak, it was decided to put a foldable drip tray under the locomotive. Finally, the railway carried out the further necessary measures itself, so that the fire brigade's operation took a total of around 45 minutes.

An incident the night before

But that wasn't the only fire department operation this week. On the night of Thursday to Friday, a dramatic incident occurred with a burning, driverless locomotive on the route between Munich and Freilassing. At around three o'clock in the morning the locomotive was reported on the open track near Ainring - unoccupied and rolling at high speed towards Freilassing. Thanks to the quick response of firefighters and other Deutsche Bahn emergency services, the locomotive was able to be redirected to a track east of the station by carefully setting the switch. Finally it stopped at a buffer stop without causing any injuries. The operation, in which several fire departments from Ainring, Bad Reichenhall, Freilassing and other places were involved, ended at nine o'clock in the morning, as the [Augsburger Allgemeine](https://www.augsburger- Allgemeine.de/bayern/notfall-brenner-geister-zug-rast-ohne-lokfuehrer-durch-oberbayern-id65236131.html) reports.

Efficient emergency management

In both cases, Deutsche Bahn's extensive emergency management measures ensured safety for the emergency services. Emergency management aims to minimize the consequences of such an event and ensure smooth operations. This means that every railway emergency manager can be reached around the clock and ensures that specialist advice is available on site. They should be on scene within 30 minutes and ensure overhead lines are grounded so firefighters can work safely. Your equipment and the special signaling system also contribute to the effectiveness of the operations, as described on feuerwehrmagazin.de.

These two incidents once again illustrate how important a quick and effective response is in emergencies. The cooperation between the fire department and the railway shows that in an emergency, people's safety comes first.
