GC fights for the cup: Cham has to tremble until the last minute!

On December 3, 2025, the Cup quarter-finals between GC and FC Cham were scheduled for Swiss football. The hosts, GC, took command from the start and put their opponents from Cham under a lot of pressure. Already in the 18th minute, Ullmann gave the home team the lead with a precise shot.

Three minutes later Abels made it 2-0 when he volleyed in from a corner. But Cham responded to the deficit. The team showed more and more effort and had good opportunities to score the next goal through Vogele and Diaby. GC keeper Hammel made some strong saves, which were impressive even in the thick fog.

Cham's efforts and the final spurt

From the 70th minute, Cham increasingly invested more in the offensive and pushed for the connection. However, GC had several chances to make the decision. A double chance from Krasniqi in particular could have decided the game, but the ball simply didn't want to go into the net. The game moved into the hectic final phase, characterized by many interruptions, duels and long balls.

Shortly before stoppage time expired, things got exciting again: after a controversial duel, the referee awarded a penalty for Cham. Joel Ris took responsibility and confidently converted the penalty to make it 1:2. However, Cham was unable to equalize and GC was able to maintain their narrow lead until the final whistle.

Cham's current form and challenges

Cham's performance leaves questions. The team has suffered two consecutive defeats in its last league games, including a 3-1 defeat against Biel-Bienne, and has already been without a win in the league for three games. Cham have currently conceded an average of 2.00 goals per game and are therefore under pressure to stabilize their defense. In the last 16 meetings they have not managed to finish a game without conceding a goal.

With only 17 games remaining, including 9 away games, the team faces a challenging situation. Unfortunately, the away record doesn't speak for them: they haven't been able to win in their last 8 away games. Cham has only gotten 10% of its points from away games so far, which is reflected in the table. In football, it's no secret that home games often make all the difference, and Cham have scored 90% of their opponents' points at home.

However, the joy of the game and the potential for improvement are there. With one last show of strength, Cham could perhaps come out of the trough in the coming weeks and perhaps cause one or two surprises. Football is unpredictable!
