Violent bang in Chamerau: explosion triggers large-scale operation!

A deafening bang shook Chamerau in the Cham district late on Friday morning. How Central Bavarian reported that the emergency services had to act quickly when they went to a house construction site in the residential area. An older residential building was on fire and parts of the roof had been torn off by the explosion. The alerted emergency services did everything they could to prevent further harm from happening, as the risk of a gas leak still existed.

There was a colorful mix of excitement and concentrated commitment on site. A full alarm was raised for the Technical Relief Agency (THW) Cham and Roding, while several fire departments had to respond together with the BRK rescue service. Ultimately, the firefighters were able to extinguish the last embers, even if the situation was initially confusing. Managers gathered for a briefing, with district fire chief Michael Stahl already expected.

Experience gained from practice becomes valuable

Such situations are not new for the region. For example, the large disaster control exercise “Red Eber” took place in Chamerau in June 2018, in which around 2,500 relief workers from various Bavarian districts and the Czech Republic took part, as shown on KFV Cham can be read. This exercise included, among other things, extinguishing a fallow forest that was caused by a logging truck and dealing with a serious traffic accident.

The exercises at the time kept the emergency services on their toes - with around 726 emergency services present on Friday and 1,760 on Saturday, they coordinated easily and several fire departments were alerted to fight the fire and care for patients. These experiences will now benefit the forces in Chamerau, where they can demonstrate their skills in a real operation.
