Dead wolf found in Cham – police investigate mysterious case!

A mysterious animal discovery is causing excitement in the Cham district. Last weekend, hikers in the Lam municipality came across a dead animal carcass. The discovery took place near the Czech border and immediately piqued the interest of authorities. The Bad Kötzting police station has taken over the investigation and is now asking for information from the public.

The carcass, brought to the Cham police station by a volunteer member of the large carnivore network, shows clear injuries. What exactly led to the animal's death remains uncertain. Initial assessments suggest that it could be a young wolf. However, the final confirmation is still pending as an expert report to determine the animal species and origin has already been commissioned. The Regensburg public prosecutor's office, Straubing branch, initiated this investigation to shed light on the matter.

Investigation status and animal protection

The police are keeping an eye on the situation in close cooperation with animal rights activists. As part of the investigation, a volunteer witness will also be interviewed who can help clarify the matter. In all of this, it must be noted that there is a slight suspicion of a possible violation of the Federal Nature Conservation Act. The Animal Welfare Act protects sentient beings and prohibits the infliction of avoidable pain or harm without good reason, which is particularly relevant in the current case. Injuries to animals can be punished under the Animal Welfare Act as well as being prosecuted as damage to property.

The Bad Kötzting police station asks anyone who may have made observations in connection with this incident to contact us immediately. Particularly in cases where animal cruelty is suspected, it is important to preserve evidence such as photos or witness statements. A clear appeal to citizens: Everyone can make a contribution to protecting our animals.
