Construction work on B4: Frankenbrücke opens again on August 21st!
Construction work on the Coburg city highway is entering the next phase. From August 21, 2025, the departure from the Frankenbrücke to the north, which has been closed since the beginning of June, will be reopened. During the closure, traffic in the city, especially at the train station, was often slow, so some people probably found the waiting game on the diversion via the Creidlitz-Triebsdorf junction to be less than pleasant. This construction site actually secured the title of the most annoying construction site in a ranking by the Neue Presse, as reported by Neue Presse Coburg.
The renovation work on the B4 in Coburg is under the direction of the Bamberg State Building Authority, which is responsible for the repair of bridges, retaining walls and roadways in the section between the Frankenbrücke and the Judenberg Bridge. Work on the eastern carriageway is already well advanced and the next step is now to renovate the remaining section near the Frankenbrücke. The bridge over the Judenberg was also repaired in this context, as it showed signs of wear and tear due to traffic and the weather, as Fränkischer Tag notes.
Extensive measures for more security
Overall, the renovation includes several measures, including the renewal of the road structure, the seals, bridge caps as well as the guard rail systems and railings. Particular attention was paid to the installation of a noise-reducing road surface, which should not only bring noticeable relief for traffic but also for residents. The city of Coburg is carrying out additional renovations to the drainage facilities in some areas in order to further optimize the infrastructure.
How the renovation work is progressing can be accurately assessed by looking at the latest developments in the transport infrastructure. The reports about the new Federal Transport Infrastructure and Mobility Plan 2040 in particular show that it is time not only to think about expanding the infrastructure, but also to develop alternative concepts for climate-friendly mobility. The initiative affects all modes of transport, from walking and cycling to public transport and trucks, as BUND describes.
It remains to be seen how the work in Coburg will continue after the departure reopens on August 21st. It is clear that both construction work and new traffic management plans should remain at the top of the agenda in the coming months.
