They met the two perpetrators as well as the girls and their friends on site. Another victim

But the events in the fairytale pool are not the only alarming incidents in the region. Loud nordbayern.de On May 19, a 30-year-old man was temporarily arrested in Neustadt near Coburg because he was suspected of sexually harassing an eight-year-old girl. The incident occurred at a playground. After targeted searches, the police were able to arrest the man that same evening.

These incidents are worrying examples of the fact that sexual crimes have been increasing in Germany for years. How statista.com reported, the number of recorded sexual offenses reached a peak of around 128,000 in 2024. This increase is partly attributed to increased sensitivity and willingness to report crimes, but experts also warn of a high number of unreported cases in which many crimes remain undetected. Victims are often intimidated and unable to report their experiences for fear of blame or social pressure.

The frightening reality

Statistics show that around 91 percent of victims of sexual crimes are women. Adolescents and young women between the ages of 14 and 20 are particularly at risk. What is also alarming is that around 16,400 cases of child sexual abuse were recorded by police in 2024, which is only slightly lower than the previous year's peak. These developments make it clear that there is an urgent need to question social thought patterns and raise awareness of sexual violence.
