Numerous incidents in Coburg: Witnesses sought after accident escape!
Shocking incidents recently occurred in Coburg, where several traffic accidents and a fire attracted the attention of the local police. The cases of hit-and-run accidents, which are becoming increasingly common in the region, are particularly alarming.
On July 6, 2025, between 3:10 p.m. and 9:50 p.m., an incident occurred in the Coburg University parking garage. Here a white Mercedes A180 was damaged, its left front bumper and fender sustained damage worth around 1,000 euros. The Coburg police are urgently calling on witnesses to call 09561/645-0 to obtain further information. A similar incident occurred on the same day at 00:05 a.m. at Schloßplatz, where a 64-year-old man collided with a brown Opel Astra while reversing in his gray Ford Focus. The driver initially left the scene of the accident, but returned after contact with the police. A complaint was filed against him for fleeing a traffic accident.
Fire in the city
In addition to the accidents, there was also a fire reported. On July 5, 2025, at around 11:54 p.m., a fire broke out in the Kürengrund, a green area between the footpath and cycle path and the Medau School. The Coburg fire department was on the scene quickly and was able to extinguish the fire, which affected an area of around 160 square meters, without any injuries or damage to property. However, the exact cause of the fire remains unclear and there is currently no evidence of intentional arson.
Hit-and-runs on the rise
The statistics on accident escapes in Germany make it clear that this problem is not an isolated case. According to [Statista](https://de.statista.com/statistics/daten/studie/1056312/umfrage/zahl-der-unfallfluechtigen-bei-unfaellen-mit-personal Schaden-in-deutschland/), the data shows that the number of accident fugitives increased continuously between 2013 and 2023. This is a worrying trend that also affects Coburg.
Another case of hit-and-run was discovered on Saturday afternoon when a Seat Ibiza was damaged in the train station parking lot in Stockheim. The damage to the front left side of the vehicle amounts to around 2,500 euros. The Kronach police are also asking for information on 09261-5030.
Theft and vandalism
In addition, there was a theft of a Pedelec worth around 4,800 euros in Kronach, where the bike, which was secured in an unlocked garage, was stolen. Vandalism also tarnishes the cityscape: In Mainleus, between July 5th and 6th, 2025, a single-family home on Stettiner Straße was pelted with eggs, which resulted in considerable cleaning effort. The Kulmbach police are also looking for clues here by calling 09221/609-0.
While the police in Coburg and the surrounding area are struggling with various incidents, citizens can only hope for more vigilance and help to reduce such unpleasant events in the future.
