ASV Dachau fails in the cup: sad defeat in Ludwigsburg!
In an exciting knockout round, ASV Dachau failed to qualify for the DVV Cup. In their first appearance of the new season, the volleyball players had to admit defeat 1:3 against the Barock Volleys MTV Ludwigsburg. Despite a strong start, with the Dachau team briefly leading by five points in the first set, the tide quickly turned. In the end the result was extremely close at 25:21, 27:29, 17:25, 15:25. Coach Patrick Steuerwald said anecdotally after the game: “Annoying, but not a broken leg.”
ASV Dachau, who had to do without their new signings Marius Büchi and Carlos Jimenez, had already prepared the teams for the long list of challenges in the upcoming 1st Volleyball Bundesliga before the first match day. As asv-volleys.de reports, this knockout game took place as part of the cup qualification just a week before the official league start.
The course of the game: ups and downs
The game took the Dachau team to Ludwigsburg, Saxony, where they fought for their place in the cup in the city center sports hall. In the first set, the team around Luca Schwarz and Tobias Besenböck seemed to win the set after a decisive attacking error by Ludwigsburg. In the second set there was an exciting duel at eye level, which the Baroque Volleys ultimately won 29:27 after having to avoid five set points.
In the third set, the Dachau team came back again and equalized in the middle of the set, but this time they couldn't keep the momentum and ultimately lost. In the fourth set the team had difficulties and had to admit defeat by a clear score of 15:25.
Looking ahead: The challenge in the Bundesliga
The defeat was inconvenient for the Dachau team as the team had just prepared for a strong start to the season in the 1st Volleyball Bundesliga on October 9th. volleyball-bundesliga.de highlights that the Bundesliga has grown to 14 teams this season, including international teams and a variety of new challengers. The ASV Volleys already have a tough nut to crack with this fresh start and injury problems.
Before the cup game, coach Steuerwald had already pointed out the challenges that had arisen due to late information about cup qualification. “We are underdogs against Ludwigsburg,” he admitted, but his team remains optimistic. Setter Severin Brandt was also confident despite the last results: “We have to do our best and do everything we can to bring energy and team spirit onto the field.”
The next steps for ASV Dachau in the league will be essential in order to emerge from the current situation. But after the annoying cup loss, there remains hope that the fighting spirit will bring numerous successes in the coming season.
