Bavaria in the grip of frost: warnings of slippery conditions and squalls everywhere!

The New Year begins in Bavaria with a frosty surprise. The German Weather Service ( Mercury ) has issued numerous warnings for freezing temperatures and slippery temperatures on New Year's Day, which are in effect until 10 a.m. on New Year's Day. In the affected districts, temperatures can fall between -7 °C and -12 °C, while in the valleys and hollows there can even be frosty temperatures of up to -15 °C.

What makes this more dangerous is the possibility of freeze damage, hypothermia, and freezing water pipes. Increased frost is to be expected, particularly in the southern districts such as Lindau, Oberallgäu, as well as in cities such as Kempten and Memmingen. The list of affected areas is long and includes, among others, Augsburg, Munich and Rosenheim.

Weather forecast for New Year

What is the weather like on New Year's Day? According to the current weather report ( Weather hazards ) on the first day of the year it will remain friendly on the southern slopes, while the northern areas can expect a lot of clouds and later snowfall. The cold front is expected from the north in the afternoon, which will also cause further cold snaps in the rest of Bavaria.

Weather developments indicate that light to moderate frost can be expected here and there. Slippery conditions are to be expected especially in northern and eastern Bavaria, where freezing wet conditions or light snow will cause problems for road conditions and snowfall may begin in many regions towards the evening.

Wind and storm: watch out!

Residents should also pay attention to wind conditions. At higher altitudes in the Bavarian Forest, stormy gusts with speeds of around 80 km/h are forecast, while in the high altitudes of the Alps there is even a risk of severe gusts of around 100 km/h. According to the German Weather Service ( DWD ), the wind remains active even at night, which draws the warning eyes of the population especially to the weather conditions.

So New Year's Day definitely brings with it some challenges. Given the cold and adverse weather conditions, it is advisable to take anti-freeze measures and avoid prolonged stays outdoors. Stay warm and careful!
