Deggendorf triumphs in the VR Bank Cup: keeper Groll conjures up the winning goal!

Yesterday there was once again a big celebration in Deggendorf! SpVgg GW Deggendorf triumphed in the VR Bank Cup and not only secured the cup, but also a starting place for the SAR Cup 2024. In the final, the team won 4-2 against TSV Pilsting, who had previously surprisingly qualified. Deggendorf didn't have an easy start and suffered a narrow defeat against FSV Landau in the first group match, where they lost 0-1. But the players didn't give up and finally fought their way to the final, where they initially started the game against Pilsting 0-1 from the Pilstinger perspective before they were able to turn things around.

Particularly noteworthy was the keeper Lukas Groll, who not only equalized with an impressive long-range shot, but also scored the decisive 2-1 lead. In addition to him, Felix Heudecker from TuS Pfarrkirchen was also recognized as the best player of the tournament and had previously contributed significantly to his team's entry into the SAR Cup final, where they were also quite successful.

The placements and awards

The best teams received cash prizes at the award ceremony: 150 euros for first place, 100 euros for second place, 75 euros for third place and 50 euros for fourth place. The players from FSV Landau won the game for third place. They won the exciting nine-meter shootout against FC Eintracht Landshut 10:9 and thus secured the bronze medal.

The top scorers of the tournament were also crowned: Fabian Schiller and Jonas Achatz from SpVgg Ruhmannsfelden, as well as Philipp Müller and Aldo Lamcaj from FC Eintracht Landshut, each scored 6 goals. The award for the best goalkeeper went to the strong Lukas Groll from Deggendorf.

A look at the SAR Cup

The SAR Cup, which takes place in Pilsting on January 6th, will be an exciting affair. TSV Pilsting secured their place after they beat FC Teisbach on nine meters in yesterday's VR Cup final. A total of 12 teams will compete in four groups at the SAR Cup. The groups were divided as follows:
