Dingolfing-Landau: Record cyclists achieve 424,293 kilometers in city cycling!

The final event of the tried and tested city cycling took place in the Dingolfing-Landau district office on September 30, 2025. District Administrator Werner Bumeder and cycling officer Florian Hinkelmann had their hands full when they honored the outstanding participants. This year the impressive record of 424,293 kilometers was set, which corresponds to a fairly significant increase compared to the previous year with 350,195 kilometers. Figures like this show how much awareness of environmentally friendly mobility is growing and how many Cologne residents are now riding.

A total of 1,623 participants took part in the campaign, a jump from 1,339 in 2024. On average, the cyclists covered 226 kilometers, helping to avoid around 70 tons of CO₂. Nine municipalities from the district were represented, with the municipality of Marklkofen bringing a breath of fresh air to the event. The youngest active participant was Felix Obermeier, born in 2021, while Dr. Johannes Smieja, born in 1940, as the oldest participant, the older generations die proudly.

Active schools and special services

What is particularly pleasing is the support for school cycling, which this year took place in eight federal states parallel to city cycling. School lawns include not only students, but also parents and teachers who promote the environmentally friendly approach. The focus is not just on cycling kilometers, but the entire mobility is designed to be sustainable, as stadtradeln.de also describes. Two schools even received a grant of 250 euros: the Pfarrer-Huber School with a fantastic 3,533 kilometers and the Dingolfing High School with an incredible 26,804 kilometers.

Hardworking cyclists: The best of 2025

Christian “Brain” Stelke from the Herzog-Georg School managed an impressive 2,487 kilometers and thus took first place among the active participants. Karl-Heinz Aichner from SV Frauenbiburg also broke the 2,300 kilometer mark with 2,351 kilometers. Maria Pöschl from Landau was also extremely hard-working with 2,277 kilometers and secured a place among the best participants for the fourth time.

The district office's most popular faces were Johannes Neuner with 1,521 kilometers, Sylvia Haas with 997 kilometers and Heidi Mazrekaj with 459 kilometers. This shows that cycling traffic is anything but standing still in administration.

A nice ending with social commitment

Another highlight of the event was the donation from Edeka Logistik to the Dingolfing-Landau children's cancer charity - a total of 4,220 euros was raised, which corresponds to one cent per kilometer cycled. Such actions are not only an incentive for cyclists, but also promote togetherness and willingness to help in the community.

The Federal Environment Agency emphasizes that cycling not only contributes to reducing carbon dioxide, but also plays an important role in promoting people's health ([umweltbundesamt.de]). A little daily exercise, such as cycling, can have a positive effect on the quality of life and is therefore not only good for the environment, but also for your own health.

Overall, it can be said that the trend towards cycling is on the rise in Dingolfing-Landau. The more people switch to cycling, the better it is for the environment and their own well-being. This development gives hope for the coming years and shows that the bike can reach new heights here too.
