Peace pilgrimage in Landau: tradition, herbs and white sausage await you!
On August 15th, the traditional peace pilgrimage is celebrated in Landau, which has been an integral part of regional customs for over 40 years. The patronage service begins at 9 a.m. in the parish church of St. Maria, where the community gathers for prayer. Before the service there is a special attraction: the sale of herb bushes. This tradition has not only religious but also cultural significance and attracts many locals and guests.
After the service, the procession will make its way from the upper town square via the main street and the Spitalplatz to the Steinfelskirche. The Eucharistic blessing is then given in the Steinfels Church, another highlight of the celebrations. The procedure provides for a clear order, which is led by the altar boys with crosses and flags, followed by flag delegations from various clubs and reservist fraternities. The volunteer fire departments will also be represented, as well as the clergy and the parish councils from the Landau parish association.
A festive ending
After the procession, all participants are invited to enjoy the traditional white sausage meal and lunch at the Schönhärl inn. This not only pampers the mind, but also the palate. The entire event provides a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together, preserve old traditions and create new memories.
A look at the entire procession order shows that it is not just the clergy and political representatives, such as the mayor and city council, who play a role. Many other clubs and participants contribute to the colorful diversity of the festival, making the peace pilgrimage a real highlight in Landau's event calendar.
The peace pilgrimage is more than just a religious event - it is an expression of cohesion and community spirit. So if you don't have any plans yet, you should definitely mark this date in your calendar and become part of this beautiful tradition. A warm welcome awaits you in Landau on August 15th!
