Rail traffic between Donauwörth and Nördlingen stopped until Tuesday!
On Monday evening there was a significant disruption in rail traffic in the region between Donauwörth and Nördlingen. As the Augsburger Allgemeine reported that the track was completely closed due to severe damage to the overhead line. This disruption has far-reaching consequences: all trains are canceled and the transport companies have set up an emergency bus service to transport travelers between the two cities.
The first reports of the blockade reached the public early Monday afternoon. The damage to the overhead line could not be repaired by Tuesday morning, making closure information even more uncertain. According to initial estimates, it was originally expected that the disruption would last all day. To help travelers, the Arverio company also used two large taxis that commute between Donauwörth and Nördlingen.
Disturbances are inevitable
Such disruptions are not only known in the Donauwörth-Nördlingen region, but also on many other railway lines in Germany. The Initiative “Disruptions in Rail Traffic” points out that cancellations and delays are quite common in the German route network. The causes are often diverse, from fallen trees to damage to vehicles and damage to overhead lines.
A recent example of a similar disruption occurred on the RE1 line between Berlin and Frankfurt (Oder). There were also delays here due to damage to the overhead line, which was discovered on Tuesday morning around 8:10 a.m. Passengers at Erkner station had to get off the trains there as the connections were routed back to Berlin. How RBB24 reported that the first trains were able to run again, but there are still possible delays and cancellations.
The causes of these disorders are often not entirely clear. In this case, the investigators ruled out outside influence and suspected a connection with the shuttle to the nearby Tesla factory in Grünheide. In both incidents, Deutsche Bahn emergency managers and repair crews are on hand to ensure clarity and repair the damage as quickly as possible.
It remains to be hoped for all travelers in the region that the situation will soon be under control and rail traffic will run smoothly again. Until then, the transport companies advise you to regularly find out about the current timetables and possible changes.
