Deiningen wins the district football tournament for primary schools in Wallerstein!

On Friday, July 11, 2025, the sports field in Wallerstein became the venue for a soccer tournament filled with a lot of enthusiasm and team spirit. A total of 15 primary schools in the Donau-Ries district competed against each other in the “Football in Primary Schools” competition. The event brought together students, parents and teachers and created an exuberant atmosphere in the stands and on the field. The principal Brigitte Ulbricht, teacher Doris Eder and the district chairman Sascha Polanec warmly welcomed all participants.

In an exciting tournament format, which consisted of two groups with four teams each, the students in the fourth year age group fought for victory. The playing time was two times eight minutes, and each participant had to make sure that at least one girl per team was on the field. This rule created an inclusive atmosphere that promoted team spirit among everyone involved. The Leonhart-Fuchs primary school from Wemding, which came with its class 4a, was highly motivated and full of anticipation for the games.

Semi-finals and finals

The group phase was led by volunteer referees, namely Ralf Jaumann, Joachim Fischer and Andreas Uhl. After exciting encounters, the primary schools from Oberndorf, Wemding, Donauwörth and Deiningen qualified for the semi-finals. The defending champion from Deiningen was considered the favorite and was able to reach the final. But the team from Wemding also showed a great performance and emerged as a serious challenger.

In the final, the teams from Wemding and Deiningen finally faced off. The Deiningen primary school grabbed the title for the second time in a row and became district champions, which fulfilled the expectations and hopes of the spectators. The Oberndorf primary school ended up in third place after beating the Mangold primary school in Donauwörth. Wallerstein came in fifth place, followed by Amerdingen, Mertingen and Löpsingen.

Rewards and food

All finalists received attractive non-cash prizes, sponsored by Raiffeisen-Volksbank Ries eG. The winning team was presented with a trophy and a football, donated by the Bavarian Football Association. In order to provide the participants with the best possible care, the parents of the Max Dünßer primary school were active and offered culinary specialties, supported by the local bakery Weißgerber.

Football tournaments like these not only promote sporting ambition, but are also a great opportunity for schools to experience community and team spirit. The topic of football can also be addressed across subjects in lessons. From designing their own football stickers to digital projects, students find many opportunities to creatively engage with the topic. The enthusiasm for sport not only captivates the little players, but also motivates them to learn and actively participate in school life.

Such an event will certainly continue to be held in the Donau-Ries district in the future and will further fuel enthusiasm for both football and the community among primary schools.
