Drama in the district league: relegation, promotion opportunities and goalscorers unfold!
A dramatic season in the North District Leagueis coming to an end and it's been a real ups and downs for the teams. The fight for the promotion places was particularly exciting, with TSV Gersthofen unexpectedly falling by the wayside on the last match day.
The season ended in a nail-biter for many teams. FC Horgau managed to escape relegation, while TSV Gersthofen, who had been well in the race for a long time, surprisingly missed out on the promotion round. Instead, SV Wörnitzstein-Berg managed to place itself in the top five of the league again and recorded another good result with a solid fourth place.
Strong performance from the Wörnitzstein mountaineers
With the achievements so far, SV Wörnitzstein-Berg can hope for a successful future. Last season they came in 4th place and had an impressive offensive strength with 47 goals, supported by 17 different goalscorers. TSV Nördlingen II also showed remarkable development and was able to achieve its best placement in its eight district league seasons to date with a sixth place.
A notable aspect of the season was that TSV Nördlingen II was never ahead of SV Wörnitzstein-Berg. Nevertheless, on the 16th and 19th matchdays they managed to get within one point of the Wörnitzstein-Bergler team. For Nördlingen II, their first win was only celebrated on matchday five, and they used a total of 29 different players. Max Göttler, the brother of coach Michael Göttler, was a constant element: he played every one of the 30 matches.
Fighting spirit and surprises
The league was also characterized by numerous coaching changes. Six coaches left their positions in the first half of the season, including teams such as FC Stätzling and VfR Neuburg. These fluctuations could affect the flow of the game for many teams and created additional tension.
The top scorers list is another exciting aspect of the season. Fabian Bühler from TSV Gersthofen leads the rankings with 34 goals, closely followed by Manuel Utz from BC Rinnenthal with 26 goals. The recommendation for all strikers who aim to break this mark is clear: “The will counts – and the training!”
On to the next season!
The North District League is not only exciting in the table, but also in terms of viewer numbers. The second half of the season awaits fans with increasing viewer numbers and a promise of even more exciting games. Before the next season begins, there are a few catch-up games that could provide a breath of fresh air and possibly surprises.
