Older generation from St. Margaret explores UNESCO World Heritage Site Wieskirche

In the picturesque Swabian market, the “older generation” of the Catholic parish of St. Margaret recently took an unforgettable trip to the Wieskirche. Over 30 seniors visited the impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site to learn more about its history on a guided tour. The event took place in mid-September and was carried out by Wilhelm Baumhof, the organizer of the parish council. Those interested can find out more about further activities of the “Older Generation” from the parish office, as it is planned that such trips to Steingaden will also take place in the future.

The trip to the Wieskirche included a visit, a celebratory service in the parish church of St. Johannes Baptist and a cozy visit to a café afterwards. The participants fondly remember the warm atmosphere that prevailed during the service led by Pastor Nikolaus Gomano. It was a successful opportunity for the older citizens to meet not only spiritually but also socially.

A colorful program for the “older generation”

The Catholic parish of St. Margaret regularly offers the older generation a varied program. Events take place once a month at which advice and lectures are presented on topics such as healthy eating, exercise in old age and legal issues such as advance directives and heirs. Members can also look forward to social activities such as carnival celebrations, May devotions and literary readings, which are held in the parish hall of the parish.

The planned annual program for 2025 is promising and offers numerous opportunities to participate:

Date event
January 8th Bavarian. Dialect reading
February 12th Carnival celebration
March 12th Power point presentation “Spring Awakening”
April 9th Lent, afternoon retreat
May 14th Half-day trip with May devotion at Scheyern Monastery
June 11th Games afternoon
July 9th Dancing while sitting
August Holidays, not an event
September 10th Day trip to the Wieskirche
October 8th Oktoberfest
November 12th Lecture “God in the three monotheistic world religions”
December 10th Advent celebration

The events offer a solid setting in which both the “older generation” and younger guests can feel comfortable. Once a month, on the second Wednesday, the participants gather in the parish hall at 2 p.m. to spend time together. Entry is free and the organizing team ensures that trips are offered at low cost so that no one is left out.

The church as a supportive community

In addition to the regular meetings, the church also sees itself as a contact point for older people in everyday life. The parish council not only promotes social events, but is also committed to supporting sick and elderly people. Pastoral support plays a central role within the Christian community.

Various offers are made to ensure that the needs of the older generation are taken into account. If you are looking for more information about the events or need support, you will find the first point of contact in the parish office on Webergasse.

The valuable work of the parish council is appreciated by many, and it can be assumed that the offers will continue to have a high status in Markt Schwaben. This keeps the community strong and the connection between young and old alive.
