Munich S-Bahn: Massive construction work is causing major restrictions!
Massive construction work on the S-Bahn infrastructure is imminent in Munich, and users of the popular transport connection should prepare for some profound restrictions. From October 10, 2025, Deutsche Bahn will begin maintenance work that will extend to the completion of construction of the second main line. The main route and numerous external branches, which will experience restrictions in the coming weeks, are particularly affected by these measures.
How Radio gong reported, the first major closure will lead to a complete standstill of the main route from October 17, 2025 (10:20 p.m.) to October 20, 2025 (4:40 a.m.). During this time, the tracks around Ostbahnhof will also be closed, resulting in significant restrictions for passengers.
Restrictions during construction work
The affected lines and their changed timetables, how Munich S-Bahn informed are as follows:
- S1: Fahrt nur zwischen Freising/Flughafen und Hauptbahnhof, ab Moosach ohne Zwischenhalt, Takt von 20–40 Minuten.
- S2: Im Westen halbstündiger Takt zwischen Petershausen und Heimeranplatz, im Osten nur zwischen Riem und Erding.
- S3: Nur zwischen Mammendorf und Pasing sowie Giesing und Holzkirchen.
- S4: Fährt nach Geltendorf und Pasing.
- S5: Fährt nur zwischen Kreuzstraße und Giesing.
- S6: Keine Einschränkungen.
- S7: Keine Einschränkungen.
- S8: Umleitung über den Südring von Pasing nach Ostbahnhof ohne Zwischenhalt; Haltestelle Leuchtenbergring entfällt.
Um den Verkehrsfluss aufrechtzuerhalten, sind Ersatzbusse zwischen Pasing und Donnersbergerbrücke im 10-Minuten-Takt eingerichtet. Die MVG-Buslinie 130 bietet eine gute Anbindung von Pasing zur Westendstraße (U4/U5).
Fall break and additional closures
Another major construction project will take place during the autumn holidays: from October 31st to November 10th, 2025, passengers must expect an additional closure between Pasing and Donnersbergerbrücke. The Deutsche Bahn announces that buses will also be set up every 5 minutes as a replacement service.
The mentioned bus routes ensure smooth access during the construction phase and are an important part of the temporary traffic investigations that continue to serve the S-Bahn network. Further replacement services are also planned for passengers during the nighttime hours of November 1st to 2nd and November 4th to 5th, 2025.
With this comprehensive work, Deutsche Bahn is proving once again that the maintenance and expansion of the infrastructure is a long-term goal that should significantly improve travel quality in the future.
