Youth football in Altenerding: referee threatens death attack!

On October 25, 2025, at the D-junior soccer game between SpVgg Altenerding III and SG FC Fraunberg in Altenerding, a frightening incident occurred that shocked the entire soccer community in Bavaria. How rosenheim24 Reportedly, the 12-year-old referee was massively threatened during the game. The incident, which climaxed during the second half, once again shows the worrying developments in amateur and youth football.

The incidents began with verbal pressure from the visiting coach, who constantly criticized the young referee's decisions. After the final whistle, which ended with a score of 3-1 for Altenerding, the situation escalated dramatically. The coach insulted the referee and accused him of “whistling” the game. It was the threat from a SG FC Fraunberg player that was particularly frightening when he told the referee: "I go to the same school as you. On Monday you don't have to hide - after school you'll be dead!" These words, heard by several spectators, prompted the Erding referee group to immediately inform the relevant authorities, including the youth sports court. The Bavarian Football Association (BFV) has started an investigation into this and one player has already been provisionally banned.

The reaction of those involved

The incident is not only a shocking example of disrespect in youth football, but has also led to a strong outcry within the football community. The Erding referee group has already contacted the affected referee and is offering support. Despite the threatening situation, the referee's mother and a responsible member of SpVgg Altenerding managed to prevent the worst and stop further escalation.

Particularly worrying is the statement by Stefan Empl, the district referee chairman, who points out that hostility towards referees in the youth sector is increasing. This development is reflected in the numbers: According to the BFV, there were 80 similar incidents in around 200,000 games in Bavaria last season. BFV spokesman Fabian Frühwirth emphasizes that the association has a zero-tolerance policy towards such incidents.

A worrying development

The fact that a young referee, who is only 12 years old, has to face such threats is alarming. The situation highlights how important it is to create a respectful environment for everyone involved. The commitment of the Erding referee group to support the young referee in this tense situation is of great importance and shows that the community can stand together.

Although the coaches and players later personally apologized to the referee, the question remains as to how such situations can be avoided in the future. It is hoped that the Bavarian Football Association's investigation will help take preventative measures and draw appropriate consequences for disrespectful behavior in football.

Overall, this incident clearly shows that youth football is not just about sporting achievements, but also about respect and fairness towards everyone involved. How will football develop in Bavaria and what can we do to make this game that so many of us love a respectful and fair sport?
