Enjoy art in the evening: Discover Erding's famous artists!
The Erding Museum invites you to a special evening on Wednesday, June 25th: from 7 p.m., art lovers can take part in the “Culture Enjoyment in the Evening” event. The focus is on an exciting tour about three important artists from Erding, which is led by the art historian Simone Lachmann. She will present the life stories and works of Hiasl Maier, Magda Bittner-Simmet and Benno Hauber and show their impressive paintings. Registration is not required, entry costs just four euros, which is a real bargain for art lovers.
The motto of the tour “Da Bene, da Hiasl and d’Magda: Art and artists in Erding” reflects the city’s connection to its artists. Hiasl Maier, born in Erding in 1894 and known for his atmospheric landscapes and characterful portraits, found his second home on Lake Chiemsee. At the age of 33, he became an honorary citizen of Frauenchiemsee, and a street in Erding bears his name. Art historian Simone Lachmann will take the audience on a journey through his life and explain the meaning of his work.
The artists in focus
Another part of this exciting event is dedicated to Magda Bittner-Simmet (1916-2008). She lived in Munich-Schwabing and was highly respected as a portraitist by Munich society. Her travels took her to many places, and in 1989 she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for her work on behalf of visual artists in Bavaria. Lachmann plans to show some of her atmospheric landscapes during the tour, which will provide listeners with both nostalgic and modern perspectives.
Benno Hauber (1924-1994), the third artist in the group, was a true all-rounder. His work as a painter, graphic artist and designer as well as as a sgraffito artist made him known in the regional art scene. Hauber is valued in the city not only for his wall designs, including the image of the Madonna on the Frauenkircherl, but also for his fountains, such as the guild fountain on Gries. He was honored with the district's culture prize for his achievements, and there is also a street in Erding that commemorates his work.
Erding art region in context
The tour of the Erding Museum comes at a time when the 2025 art year in Germany has promising events in store. Important events such as Art Düsseldorf and Gallery Weekend Berlin generate a lively art scene that raises awareness of regional art and artists. Moviiu highlights that 2025 will be a year with numerous important art events, which could further increase interest in events like the one next Wednesday in Erding.
While art lovers look forward to the various top-class exhibitions in Germany, the evening at Museum Erding offers the opportunity to experience the city's connection to art history up close. The event promises to be not only informative, but also entertaining - a real highlight for the culture of Erding and the surrounding area.
