This sign not only explains the origin of the name “Hundsmühle”, but also acknowledges the long tradition and eventful history of the mill. Interestingly, the origin of the name “dog” remains unclear to this day. Historically, the name could go back to a miller named “Hunt” or “Hund” who owned the mill around 1450.
From miller to mill
Over the centuries, the Hundsmühle has seen many changes of ownership. The best-known families include those of Hans Hund/Hunt, the Bub family, who owned the mill for around 150 years until 1720, and the Holweg family, who have owned the mill since 1786. Despite the changing ownership, the name “Hundsmühle” has remained in place to this day and represents a long tradition in the region.
