Freising district: New climate protection concept for a green future!
The Freising district presents its new climate protection concept to promote renewable energies until 2035. Find out about the details and measures for climate design.

Freising district: New climate protection concept for a green future!
There is a lot happening in the Freising district when it comes to climate protection! The new climate protection concept was presented on September 30, 2025, which not only offers a comprehensive balance of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, but also sets the course for the future.
The concept, which was developed by climate protection manager Daniel Siflinger, builds on the energy transition resolution of 2007. The goal is to achieve a complete supply of renewable energy by 2035. This is not an easy undertaking, because while the district already covers large parts of its electricity needs from renewable sources, the areas of heating and transport are still heavily dependent on fossil fuels. Therefore, measures such as the accelerated expansion of photovoltaic and wind energy systems as well as higher renovation rates in existing buildings are essential in order to achieve the desired climate goals.
The path to renewable energies
The concept presented represents a strategic planning tool for future climate protection work and contains scenarios for achieving climate goals that extend beyond 2035. A catalog of measures lists numerous short, medium and long-term projects in the area of climate protection. What is particularly positive is the fact that record levels of new photovoltaic systems were recorded in 2023 and 2024. There are also numerous new projects to expand renewable energies in the pipeline.
Interested citizens can find the climate protection concept in three digital versions - full version, short version and conclusion - on the Freising district website. This is a step in the right direction, because as kreis-freising.de reports, public participation is very important here.
An interactive experience for everyone
But not only strategic planning is important, the active involvement of citizens in the issues of climate change and sustainability also plays a major role. On December 8, 2021, a new circular route with an interactive audio guide was opened in Freising, which is dedicated to precisely these topics. The educational trail leads over the Freising university campus and the Weihenstephaner Berg and offers the opportunity to learn everything about energy production, climate impacts and your own CO2 footprint.
Starting at the D1 building of the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences, the circular route is suitable for young people from the 10th grade as well as adults and families. To make the experience even more lively, the ‘LOCANDY’ app is free to download and includes quizzes and the opportunity to collect energy points. This joint project, which brings together the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University, the Domberg Academy and the Freisinger Stadtwerke, also has a mobilizing effect on many who are interested in climate protection. The financing of the project was supported by the Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection as well as other partners, which shows how important the topic is taken locally.
freising.de reports that the project is based on the previous work of students at the university and therefore makes a valuable contribution to education. The developments in the Freising district are an example of how commitment and creative approaches can advance climate protection.
