Millions invested in Hallbergmoos: traffic should be relieved!

In Hallbergmoos, heavy investments are being made in the infrastructure to cushion the traffic burden caused by the planned mega-project near Munich Airport. The municipality has decided to invest almost five million euros in land acquisition in order to improve the traffic situation in the north of the municipality. This measure is closely linked to the planned “Arena in the Meadow” concert hall, which can accommodate up to 20,000 visitors and is expected to cost around 300 million euros to build, reports Mercury.

With this investment, a supplementary budget becomes necessary to increase the original budget estimates. The local council has increased the budget from 3.9 million euros to 5 million euros. The aim is to counteract the increasing volume of traffic caused by the new concert arena and to create added value for the population. Mayor Benjamin Henn (FW) sees a great opportunity to reduce traffic congestion here, while critics such as Helmut Ecker (Unity) and Robert Wäger (Greens) express concerns about the municipality's responsibility.

Financial aspects and challenges

The property acquisition business must also be viewed in the context of trade tax payments. 15.3 million euros have currently been received for 2025, with a forecast of around 22.1 million euros for the full year, which is, however, below the planned 23 million euros. So far, only 38 percent of the planned investments of 41 million euros have been paid out. In addition, the much-discussed pump track facility in the sports park had to be canceled, which will lead to a further postponement of expenses.

The circumstances surrounding the supplementary budget were approved unanimously, but the administrative deficit remains significant at 7.7 million euros. Treasurer Thomas Grüning points out that the actual budget work won't take place until 2026, which could bring additional challenges.

The big picture: The Arena in the Meadow

The planned concert hall at Munich Airport will not only be a venue for concerts, but also a multifunctional hall that will include a parking garage with 1,500 parking spaces and a hotel with 200 rooms. Agreement and support also come from the operators of Munich Airport, who have guaranteed the sale of the area. That will probably make the building even more attractive, he says t-online.de.

In addition, the preliminary draft of the development plan was approved by the planning committee of the Freising city council with a vote of 9 to 4. From March 19th, those interested can view the plans on the city of Freising's website and in the town hall; comments are possible until the deadline of April 30th. The majority of the Freising city council is in favor of building the arena, and anticipation for the upcoming events is growing.

The “Arena in the Meadow” project impressively shows how the community of Hallbergmoos and the surrounding area are preparing for the future. The coming months will show whether the measures to ease traffic and the large cultural facility can go hand in hand.
