After 30 years: Nandlstadt has to say goodbye to La Piazza”!
After almost thirty years, the Italian restaurant “La Piazza” in Nandlstadt is closing. Antonio Chiffi and his wife Elena took this emotional step at the end of July 2025. For many guests who shed tears that day, it was the end of a chapter in hospitality. The restaurant, which was known far beyond the borders of Nandlstadt, was opened in 1996 and was previously known under the name “Bäckerbräu Italia 90” between 1990 and 1995.
Antonio Chiffi has his roots in Puglia, where he trained as a chef and later worked in a bakery. His passion for Italian cuisine brought not only pizzas and pasta to plates, but also exquisite fish dishes. Guests even came from Munich to enjoy the qualities of “La Piazza”, which impressively underlines the popularity of the restaurant.
A farewell with memories
The farewell, which a regular guest, Sabine Bachner, composed especially for the couple, was particularly moving. Antonio describes the years spent together in the restaurant as those of a large family enriched by the guests and their loyalty. With one crying eye and one laughing eye, Antonio and Elena are now taking new paths. Antonio is planning to retire, while Elena is looking for a new professional challenge as a school companion and possibly as a nanny.
The challenges the restaurant has faced in recent years cannot be underestimated. The lack of staff made the work increasingly stressful and contributed to the decision to close the restaurant. A successor for the premises of “La Piazza” has already been determined, which gives hope that the tradition of Italian gastronomy will be continued in Nandlstadt.
A piece of Italian culture
The Italian restaurant was not only a place for culinary delights, but also a piece of cultural heritage. The Italian language and its associated traditions were always part of the experience. Italian, as a Romance language, is spoken as a native language by around 65 million people and has a significant influence on various areas of society such as music and cuisine. The love for this language and culture is also reflected in the offerings of “La Piazza”, which has won many fans over the years.
Antonio and Elena Chiffi will be missed by many people in Nandlstadt. Your hospitality and the family atmosphere of the restaurant will never be forgotten. While new paths are taken, a piece of “La Piazza” remains in the hearts of the guests.
