Shuttle bus for Asam: Older generation from Freising demands barrier-free connection!
The Freisinger Asam, a lively event venue, has been attracting more and more visitors since it reopened last year. The current dance performance “FLOW” by the renowned Linga company is particularly appreciated, offering an exciting performance on the subject of natural phenomena and individual expression. However, this event and many other events raise the question of how older people and citizens with limited mobility can get there. Access to this cultural center is a challenge for many.
One of the affected voices is the 79-year-old Paula Schrödl from Freising. She has publicly expressed her desire to introduce a shuttle bus to bring visitors home safely after events. Their suggestion was to start at a stop at the war memorial to make better use of the public parking spaces. Cultural advisor Nico Heitz supports this idea and emphasizes that barrier-free accessibility is essential for all citizens. However, there are currently no funds available for shuttle services and there is a lack of clear data about the actual need, which Karl Raster, the manager of the city of Freising, emphasizes.
Public transport connections and accessibility
It is currently difficult for older people and people with disabilities to reach Asam, especially if they are dependent on the return journey after evening events. The existing bus routes 650 and 651 do not serve the necessary stops near Asam on Sundays and often end before the end of the event. This represents a significant hurdle that could be overcome with a targeted solution. Raster points to the possibility of voluntary initiatives or taxi services as viable alternatives.
The challenge of accessibility in local public transport was launched in 2013 by the Passenger Transport Act (PBefG), which called for complete accessibility by 2022. But this deadline has passed and many stops are not yet barrier-free. Responsible for this are the cities and districts, which often struggle with limited financial and human resources to ensure barrier-free infrastructure across the board. The lack of progress is largely due to high conversion costs and the need to set priorities.
Events in Asam
However, the diverse cultural offerings in Asam should not be underestimated. The current dance performance “FLOW” offers a fascinating combination of light, movement and sound, accompanied by live music. The internationally acclaimed dance company brings a deep understanding of the balance between collective harmony and individual expression to their choreographies. Admission is between 26 and 29 euros, although the box office charges a surcharge. Afterwards, the bar at Asam is open, which offers the opportunity to chat with friends and other visitors.
In the end, it remains to be hoped that the idea of a shuttle bus for the older generation and people with disabilities will soon become a reality. Because everyone should have the chance to take part in the wonderful events at Asam without having to worry about the return journey. The suggestions from committed citizens like Paula Schrödl are an important step in the right direction.
