Mountain drama on Haidel: Mountain biker seriously injured – residents in action!
A serious mountain bike accident shocked people in Obergrainet in the Freyung-Grafenau district last Wednesday evening. The 28-year-old cyclist fell in rough terrain on Haidel and sustained serious injuries. Thanks to rural community building and quick action by local residents, something worse was prevented.
When the injured biker's cries for help were in the air, the residents reacted immediately. They immediately provided first aid and called 112. At 7:55 p.m., the Integrated Control Center (ILS) in Passau was alerted, which mobilized both the Passau-Dreisessel mountain rescue service and the rescue service. The emergency services were well prepared and not only provided first aid, but also placed the injured person in a vacuum mattress for transport.
Use in difficult terrain
The Passau-Dreisessel mountain rescue service, one of the oldest sections in Bavaria, mastered the challenge of getting the injured man out of the difficult-to-access forest area. They transported the 28-year-old to the waiting ambulance in a special mountain rescue vehicle. This happened just before dark, further complicating the situation. The operation there clearly shows how important the fast-reacting mountain rescue service is, which comes to the aid of almost 13,000 people in similar emergency situations every year - that's an average of over 35 operations per day kvpassau.brk.de reported.
The mountain rescue service is not only there for mountain bikers and hikers in the summer, where missions for mountaineers and paragliders often occur, but also for winter sports enthusiasts in the cold season. The locations are often difficult to reach, which underlines the importance of well-organized and voluntary mountain rescue.
