Experience the Alps: FME special train takes you to Garmisch and Mittenwald!

When the first rays of sunshine flash over the Alps in summer, no one can resist the thrill of a train ride to this majestic region. Neither does the Fränkische Museums-Eisenbahn e.V. Nuremberg (FME), which will be bringing a very special train to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Mittenwald onto the tracks on July 5, 2025. The anticipation of this adventure will be felt by railway lovers big and small alike, as the journey promises both breathtaking views and historic railway experiences.

The FME is committed to not only preserving historic vehicles, but also actively using them. This commitment, which has existed since it was founded in 1985, is now known far beyond the borders of Nuremberg. Thanks to the approval as a railway company (EVU), the nostalgic trips can be carried out in southern Germany and beyond. On July 5th the motto is: “Get in, please!”

The journey through the Alps

The special train journey starts at 6:27 a.m. in Fürth Hbf and goes via Nuremberg Hbf, Schwabach, Roth, Pleinfeld, Treuchtlingen, Donauwörth and Augsburg Hbf to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where arrival is scheduled for around 12:08 p.m. The return to Nuremberg takes place via all exit stops, so that no one is left behind on the route.

Passengers can look forward to a total of five hours in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where they can explore the Zugspitze, the panoramic mountain Wank and the historic town centers. Then we continue to Mittenwald, where another four hours are available for activities such as the Kranzberg cable car or the gondola to the Karwendel. Here travelers can experience the beauty of nature up close.
