Christmas magic in Upper Bavaria: Top markets for a festive atmosphere!
The anticipation of Advent is increasing and numerous towns and villages in Upper Bavaria are being transformed into a true winter wonderland. The Christmas markets are an integral part of Bavarian tradition and invite visitors to enjoy handmade gifts, culinary delights and atmospheric music. This year there are many markets surrounded by the magnificent backdrop of Christmas lights. A look at the highlights of the region shows how festive it gets here.
Especially that one Rosenheim Christmas market is particularly popular and opens its doors on November 28, 2025. A varied program awaits visitors on Ludwigsplatz and Max-Josefs-Platz until Christmas Eve, daily from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Here you can taste Bavarian delicacies and take a look at the lovingly designed stands.
A feast for the senses in Munich
In the state capital the lights will be on the famous on November 24th, 2025 Munich Christmas market enlightened. On Marienplatz, the classic wooden stalls offer everything your heart desires, from mulled wine to handicrafts to sweet treats. The market is open to all Advent enthusiasts every day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
But that's not all: that Tollwood Winter Festival in Munich, which starts on November 25th, is an “alternative Christmas market”. Under the motto “Now more than ever!” The festival ends on December 23rd with a grandiose New Year's Eve party. Here visitors can expect a wide range of art, alternative gift ideas and a festive atmosphere.
Tradition meets innovation
The Christmas market on the Fraueninsel Chiemsee is also a very special experience. Accessible by boat, the market is populated by around 80 exhibitors who offer handcrafted products and regional specialties such as the famous Chiemsee fish. This winter the market opens on the first two weekends of Advent, from November 27th to 30th and from December 4th to 7th, 2025, and offers a colorful entertainment program throughout.
The Castle Christmas at Burghausen enchants again at the longest castle in the world. From December 12th to 14th, visitors can enjoy this unique setting and immerse themselves in the Christmas atmosphere while listening to handcrafted jewelry and stories.
A sociable Advent season for everyone
In Bad Feilnbach the Forest Advent on December 13th and 14th for a festive atmosphere. With around 50 stands and a supporting program of music and singing groups, a cozy atmosphere is encouraged here.
Additional Christmas markets in other cities, such as the Christmas market in Ingolstadt, ensure a flying variety. From baked apples and roasted almonds to mulled wine – everyone will find something to their taste here!
