Future of the Ebern Hospital: redesign or final closure?
The future of the Ebern hospital is in jeopardy and is causing great nervousness among the citizens. On July 31st, District Administrator Wilhelm Schneider will inform about the upcoming changes at a meeting of the Ebern City Council at 6 p.m. in the Frauengrundhalle. This is about the new challenges that the Haßberg clinics have to overcome and the results of the last meeting of the municipal company. How NP Coburg reported, a new “medical strategy” was decided last year, which now has an impact on the structure of the Ebern hospital.
In December, the Haßberge district council presented a structural report that predicted a bleak future for the internal medicine ward at the Ebern location. The structural adjustments required by the hospital reform can hardly be achieved, so the decision was made to convert the Ebern location. In the future, a specialist doctor and nursing center will be built there, which will mean the elimination of inpatient services. In Haßfurt, too, they want to strengthen inpatient hospital care. Despite all the concerns about medical care in the district, politicians are called upon to show citizens clear perspectives.
Inadequate communication causes uncertainty
The situation is not getting any better due to the circumstances surrounding the gynecological practice at the Medical Care Center (MVZ). The move from Eltmann to Ebern took place without any prior notice or explanation, which can be interpreted as a sign of a strategic realignment of the Haßberg Clinics. Loud Ebern Magazine An action group called “Stop dying in hospitals in Bavaria” even fears that the hospital in Ebern will be completely closed. The pressure is increasing because in 2025 eight Bavarian clinics will already be affected by closures or partial closures.
This development is not only causing unrest among the population, but is also bringing political parties onto the scene that are demanding a turnaround in health policy. People criticize the lack of transparency and the slow communication about the upcoming changes, resulting in a broad resistance movement against the centralization plans. Citizens want a clinic structure that is close to home and can be reached within 30 minutes. Similar to other regions in Bavaria, Ebern is also affected by the negative consequences of the hospital reform, with economic reasons often being placed above health concerns.
An appeal to politics
With the huge change in healthcare, the question arises as to how primary healthcare will develop in the region. Without political pressure or a change in decision-making policy, the uncertainty surrounding the Ebern Hospital will continue to exist. The citizens and the action group are insisting on transparent communication and maintaining the health infrastructure - because something is really important!
