Hof receives 30 million euros: focus on urgent bridge renovation!

The city of Hof is faced with the challenge of modernizing its infrastructure and is now planning appropriate steps to obtain the necessary money for this. The “FAB and Freie” faction in the city council has taken the initiative and is calling for the creation of a catalog that lists the most urgent projects. According to the report of the Frankenpost A whopping 30 million euros from a special federal fund come into play. This cash injection could enable the city to push ahead with urgently needed renovations to bridges and roads.

A burning topic are the bridges in Hof, especially the Friedrich-Ebert-Brücke and the Michaelisbrücke. The City of Hof had already pointed out the problems in a status report. The Anger Bridge is currently closed, which means that road users have to avoid the Michaelis and Friedrich-Ebert Bridges. However, the latter is in an unsatisfactory condition. What is particularly explosive is the fact that if this bridge were to fail, there would only be one option to cross the Saale, which would significantly jeopardize the accessibility of rescue and emergency vehicles.

Measures have already been initiated to counteract the condition of the Friedrich-Ebert-Brücke. The roadway will be narrowed to 3.50 meters per lane and a speed limit of 30 km/h will be introduced. The goal: the bridge can initially only be used in two lanes. A short-term replacement building seems unavoidable because closing the bridge would have a massive impact on traffic. The Michaelis Bridge, on the other hand, shows damage in some areas due to chloride pollution, but is classified as a sufficient traffic concern.

In summary, the bridges in Germany have been heavily used over the years. According to that Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure There are a total of around 40,300 bridges, most of which were built between 1960 and 1985. The increasing heavy traffic and the age structure of the bridges require comprehensive maintenance and modernization measures. In order to meet these challenges, a bridge modernization program was launched that focuses on around 7,000 kilometers and around 10,700 bridge substructures.

In view of these developments, it is essential for Hof to secure funds from the federal special fund and to consistently prioritize infrastructure projects. The condition of the existing bridges must be at the top of the agenda in order to ensure road safety and the accessibility of emergency services in the future.
