Huge alarm in Wurlitz: Large warehouse is on fire!
On the night of Sunday, July 6, 2025, there was a devastating fire in a warehouse in the quarry in the Wurlitz district in the Hof district. An attentive witness noticed thick smoke and an open fire at 3:45 a.m., which prompted him to immediately alert the fire department. But when the emergency services arrived, the warehouse was already fully ablaze polizei.bayern.de reported.
Thanks to the quick and coordinated deployment of around 200 rescue workers, consisting of the fire department, technical relief agency and rescue service, the flames were successfully prevented from spreading to a neighboring building. Firefighting and demolition work is currently underway and requires the use of heavy equipment to return the region to a safe condition as quickly as possible.
Significant property damage and fortunately no injuries
The first estimated property damage amounts to a seven-figure euro amount. Fortunately, no one has been injured so far, which certainly makes it easier for the emergency services. The Hof criminal police have started an investigation into the cause of the fire, which currently remains unclear. A police helicopter was also used to explore possible fire pockets from the air and to take overview photos.
Considering the large number of fires that are reported in Germany every year, one might ask what causes often lead to such incidents. Statistics show that technical defects, human error or negligent handling of fire are often the main causes of fire damage ifs-ev.org reported.
