E-scooter accident in Ingolstadt: 13-year-old injured – consequences for young people!
A sad incident occurred in Ingolstadt on October 27, 2025: a 13-year-old boy was injured in a collision with a car. The two boys who got around on an e-scooter were not allowed to use this vehicle due to their age. Actually, the scooter should only have been ridden from the age of 14. In addition, both of them had illegally taken a third person as a pillion passenger on the scooter, which further complicated the situation.
On the evening of the accident, around 8 p.m., the 13-year-old wanted to cross a pedestrian crossing on the street “Auf der Schanz”. There was a collision with an Audi A1 whose 18-year-old driver came from Ingolstadt. The collision took place about 200 meters before the intersection with Harderstrasse. Fortunately, the boy only sustained minor injuries; immediate medical treatment was not necessary. The damage to the vehicle amounts to around 5,000 euros, which also represents an unpleasant situation for the young driver.
Demands for higher security standards
Obstacles such as curbs are a common cause of accidents, and almost half of serious accidents occur without other road users. In addition, 12.4% of accidents occurred under the influence of alcohol, which increases pressure on authorities to introduce tougher consequences and more police checks. ZDFToday reports that there are even calls for the introduction of larger wheels of at least 10 inches for new e-scooters to reduce the risk of falls.
Road traffic regulations
E-scooter owners currently have to take out liability insurance, the costs of which start at around 30 euros per year. The maximum speed is limited to 20 km/h and driving on sidewalks is prohibited. Anyone who rides on the sidewalk or takes several people with them on an e-scooter must expect fines that increase from 15 to 25 euros. From 2027, new regulations will also come into force that require e-scooters to be equipped with indicators.
It remains to be hoped that such suggestions and regulations will soon be put into practice so that the roads become safer for all road users. The incident in Ingolstadt reminds us that responsible use of e-scooters is essential for survival, especially for the younger generations.
