Kölner Haie suffer a historic 3:10 defeat against Ingolstadt
The Kölner Haie suffered a bitter defeat in the away game against ERC Ingolstadt on October 31, 2025. With a clear score of 3:10, the Haie suffered one of the biggest defeats in their history. This defeat is only the second in the club's history in which more than ten goals were conceded. The last comparable defeat was in March 1998 against the Eisbären Berlin (4:10), as ksta.de reports.
Ingolstadt put the Haie under pressure from the start. Riley Barber gave the hosts the lead in the 14th minute with a power play goal, followed by an own goal against the Sharks when a puck bounced off goaltender Tobias Ancicka into his own net. The first third ended with a 3-0 win for Ingolstadt after Daniel Schmölz added in the 20th minute.
Defeat and records
Although the returnee Ancicka initially showed good reactions, he was unable to fend off the high deficit. In the second third, Patrick Russell scored the first goal for the Haie in the 28th minute, but Abbott Girduckis immediately restored the old distance. Within a very short time, Ingolstadt increased the lead to 6-1 before Ancicka was substituted and the young Aaron Kaiser celebrated his debut in goal for the Haie.
What was pleasing for the Haie was Brady Austin's goal, which reduced the score to 2:6 shortly before the end of the second period. But even that didn't prevent the clear defeat. In the final period, Barber and Alex Breton added two more goals before Nate Schnarr scored the third goal for Cologne. Schmölz and Tropmann set the final point with their goals to make it 10:3.
A look at the history of sharks
The Kölner Haie were founded in August 1972 and quickly developed into one of the most successful ice hockey clubs in Germany. The successes include eight German championships, including title wins from 1977 to 2002, as well as numerous runner-up championships and cup victories. The club also made a name for itself internationally, as the silver medal in the European Cup shows.
In their recent history, the Haie recorded a record attendance in the 2023/2024 season with an average of 16,993 visitors per home game, which demonstrates the club's euphoria. The successes and the loyal fan base are due not least to the club's passionate support and good work over the past decades, as highlighted on haie.de.
After this disappointing defeat, the Kölner Haie face EHC Red Bull Munich on November 2nd, 2025 at 2 p.m. A new turnaround is urgently expected in order to learn from this defeat and start better in the coming games.
