Last Christmas party for seniors in the Ingolstadt City Theater!

December in Ingolstadt brings bittersweet news for many seniors. The last Christmas party for seniors will take place in the city theater on Tuesday, December 9th. The large hall with its 760 seats is already sold out, a sign of how popular these traditional celebrations are. But next year there will be no more Christmas and carnival celebrations in the city theater. Danube Courier reports that alternative events are being planned instead.

The austerity measures that are leading to the cancellation of popular celebrations also have an impact on the range of drinks. In the future, only coffee, tea and water will be free. The vocational school, which provides stollen, ensures the sweet enjoyment. The organizers hope all the more that the seniors will be curious about the Rose Monday Ball in the community center, which will take its place. For an entry fee of five euros, you not only get entertainment from a solo entertainer, but also coffee, tea, water and a doughnut.

New formats for seniors

But the changes are not just limited to the celebrations. The city is planning three Advent celebrations in the community center in the future, with the goal of reaching around 300 people. Christmas offers such as Advent singing and readings should also remain available. This is intended to at least partially offset the loss of the large celebrations.

Another point that affects work with seniors is the planned outreach work for seniors. This cannot be implemented due to personnel problems. Although there was a confirmation from the State Office of Nursing for this position, no suitable applicant could be found. The city would have had to bear 30 percent of the costs, the remaining 70 percent would have been borne by the state. This means it remains unclear where further savings should be made in the future - the savings fundamentally affect the social environment.

Lectures and offers for seniors

On the other hand, there are numerous alternatives for seniors in Ingolstadt. The German Society for Senior Advice offers lectures all year round on relevant topics that revolve around everyday life in old age. These include, among others:

  • In gesunden Tagen Vorsorge treffen
  • Mit Demenz leben – das können Sie tun
  • Stürze vermeiden – Mobilität erhalten
  • Gesund und altersgerecht ernähren
  • Zuhause sicher leben
  • Richtig liegen – gesund schlafen
  • Seniorengerechtes Wohnen – So wird Ihre Wohnung altersgerecht
  • Notfallsituationen im Alter – der richtige und umsichtige Umgang damit

Anyone who is interested can find out more easily via the website or by calling 0800 – 724 1541.

Overall, it is a time of change for seniors in Ingolstadt. It remains to be hoped that the new formats and the planned events will be well received in order to enable older citizens to have a nice Advent season. Even if the big Christmas party in the city theater is canceled, seniors can participate in community life in a variety of ways.
